Poland and Latvia to collaborate
Published:
4/24/1998
Poland might enter the bidding to supply two-four SAR helicopters, to be bought by Latvia. The bid has been postponed for a few years, but the problem seems to have become more urgent and appears to require a final solution. A Sokol/Anakonda derivation would conform to local operational conditions, which have already proved its capabilities over the Baltic. Both countries have established collaboration agreements under the Balnet and Baltron programmes, in the field of aviation and naval collaboration in the Baltic region. This is to deliver services to support the Latvian Air Force in the training of their SAR crews, especially pilots and divers.Poland is also hoping to sell to the Baltic Republic its radar and ATC equipment. According to the Polish Minister of National Defence,Onyszkiewicz, the project is well advanced.
