First declaration of interest in Czech airline

Lufthansa throws its hat in the ring for the privatisation of CSA

Published: 9/29/1999

Lufthansa is reportedly keen to acquire Czech Airlines (CSA) and has already voiced its support for plans to privatise the airline, both to CSA itself and to the Czech Transport Ministry. According to Jochen Korbmann, Lufthansa's Regional Director, the airline is also interested in a possible capital investment in CSA. Miroslav Kula, the newly appointed President of CSA, is also aupportive of privatisation plans. The government's original plans were to privatise CSA in 2001, but this may be pulled forward into the current privatisation wave being driven by Premier Milos Zeman's government.
