Wanted squadron of F-16s

Croatia looks for F-16 deal from USAF's stocks

Published: 9/29/1999

According to reports in the Croatian media, Croatia is interested in buying a single squadron of second hand F-16s, to reinforce its current fleet of 35 MiG-21 bis/MFs. The sale, which requires the approval of the US Congress, will involve 12 single-seat and two two-seat aircraft from US Air Force stocks. If the deal goes ahead, the aircraft could be immediately upgraded by Israel Aircraft Industries, already upgrading the Croatian MiG-21s in a programme similar to that of the Romanian MiG-21 Lancer. It is likely that much of the work would be undertaken at the Military Maintenance Factory at Lucko International Airport, near Zagreb.
