Flat volumes overall hide domestic strength

Ural Airlines report small ten month falls in volumes

The Association of Air Transport Operators (AATO) has reported operating results for Ural Airlines for the first ten months of 1999. The traffic of Ural, based at Koltsovo Airport in Yekaterinburg, is in line with general trends in Russian airlines sector according to the AATO report .The company"s passenger traffic over all declined by 1.9% in the period, with domestic traffic growing by 14.1% while international traffic accounting for a quarter of the airline"s 416,600 passengers in the first ten months, falling by 29.1%. The cargo business also followed general trends with a fall of 2.1%, with substantial declines of 8.6% to 3200 tonnes on international routes not offset by the 15.4% growth in domestic traffic to 1500 tonnes. Main shareholders of Ural Airlines are Yekaterinburg company called "Krylya Urala" (Ural wings) which owns 50.4%, Uraltransbank (14.7%), State Property Fund (13.9%) and the airline"s employees.
