Estonian air control contracts for French and German suppliers

Published: 11/19/1999

Estonia has confirmed a number of contracts to upgrade the air control of Estonian airspace. The French electronics company, Thomson CSF, has won a tender to build a new air surveillance system for Estonia. The cost of the system is estimated to be more than 1 billion kroons ($66m). The system is scheduled to be completed by end 2001 and will become an integral part of BALTNET, the joint Baltic airspace surveillance system, which meets NATO requirements. Thomson CSF is also installing an electronic air traffic control system at Kazan International Airport, which should be completed by May 2000. (www.concise.org. 26th October 1999). Estonia's Lennuliiklusteeninduse AS (Air Traffic Service Ltd) and the French-German Airsys ATM have also signed a contract for the purchase and installation of a new flight control centre in Tallinn. The total cost of the deal is estimated to be some 90m kroons ($6m).
