Belavia, the Belorussian state airline, is reported to be opening new routes. This autumn, it started a transit flight Baku-Minsk-Warsaw-Minsk-Baku and transit routes Tashkent-Minsk-Warsaw-Minsk-Tashkent and Tashkent-Minsk-Frankfurt-Minsk-Tashkent. The Tashkent-Minsk leg is serviced by Tu-154, with a Tu-134 operating from Minsk to Baku, Warsaw, London, and Frankfurt.
In 2000, the airline intends to start regular air flights on routes Minsk-Saloniki and Minsk-Budapest. So far, there are only three charter flights per month to Saloniki, operated by a Tu-134 and mostly used by tourists.
Belavia now operates regular flights to Russia, Austria, the UK, Germany, Israel, Ireland, Cyprus, China, Sweden, Poland, Turkey, Uzbekiston, Czech Republic, Ukraine, Armenia, Egypt and Azerbaijan. It also connects Europe and the USA with Volgograd, Yekaterinburg, Samara, Chelyabinsk, takes passenger to the US in cooperation with Air Lingus, and to Delhi, in cooperation with Uzbekiston Havo Yullary.
Last month, it took over TechAviaService"s (TAS) tourist programme, following the grounding of the charter carrier by the Belorussian State Aviation Committee (www.concise.org. 7th October 1999).
