Su-30 deal finally signed with China, but for fewer aircraft than expected
Published:
10/11/1999
China has finally signed a $2 billion contract for Su-30MKKs from Russia. According to Viktor Chepkin, President of Lyulka-Saturn, which builds the engines for the fighters, the order amounts to some 30 aircraft, as opposed to the 50 originally reported (www.concise.org. 2nd July 1999). Sources suggest that the Chinese requirement will be for a total 38 aircraft with spare parts, support and weapons systems.
