An-24 crash reported in Komi

Published: 9/29/1999

According to local press reports, on the 22nd September, the right landing gear of an An-24 failed to lower during an approach to Ukhta airport in the Komi Republic in Northern Russia. The aircraft, registered at Nizhny Novgorod, was flying into Ukhta from Igrim. It is reported that 34 passengers and eight crewmembers were on board. After jettisoning his fuel, the pilot landed the aircraft skidding with the engines catching fire. All the passengers escaped however, without injury. In April 1997, a similar incident occurred with an An-24 belonging to Nizhegorodsky airlines, during a landing at Bykovo airport.
