Warsaw-based PZL-Aerospace Industries Inc., the simulator manufacturer is carrying out pre delivery tests of its new Su-22 training system. It is composed of two simulators, a simpler squadron level static simulator, with simplified visualisation devices, and a full mission simulator which has a six degrees of freedom motion system and advanced visualisation. It allows training of all procedures and phases of flight and military missions, including air-to-ground and air-to-air engagements. Both devices are based on mock-ups of the Su-22M4 cockpit. The imaging system comprises Silicon Graphics computers with large-screen capability presentation of outside images of different areas, and also a wide range of weather conditions in day and night.
After completion of tests the simulator will be put into service with the Polish Air Force at one of the Su-22 bases. However, no final location has been announced.
PZL-AI is the leading simulator manufacturer in Poland and Central Europe. The company has managed to deliver six simulators to the Polish Air Force: two MiG-21 and single TS-11, PZL-130TC and PZL I-22. The latter is the unique device based on six degrees of freedom platform which permits a wide range of medical tests during the simulated flight. This model is used by the Aviation Military Medicine Institute for pilots examination and selection.
Apart from aviation simulators, PZL-AI has deliveried simulators of armed vehicles and tanks, and recently a locomotive simulator was put into service by Polish Railways.
In late January, 65% of shares of PZL-AI were pwned by the Spanish company, Mecanica De La Pena Sa of Bilbao, but these have been sold to Environmental Tectonics Corporation of Southampton, Pennsylvania, USA. The remaining 35% is still kept by the general manufacturer, PZL Warszawa-Okecie.(MM) (IN398.6)
