Bialystok and Lodz progress with their airports
Published:
3/27/1998
Local towns in Poland have started to realise the importance of having airports capable of serving regional services, as well as welcoming business operations. The process is getting additional pressure caused by the lack of high quality roads, which promotes air transportation. Bialystok wants to have its own airport. This is a major town in Eastern Poland and wants to use its sport airfield, Rafalowka, as a base for future investment. This would be responsible for serving regional operations as well building up capabilities for business flights. The town's authorities want to create a financial group to cover the costs of project. Another, even more important economical centre, Lodz has opened a new passenger terminal. The investment is worth 5 million PLN and a similar amount is necessary to cover repairs of the runway and new equipment, including lighting and ILS. (MM) (AP398.4)
