Ukraine to begin production of the Ka-226 by the end of the year according to Motor-Sich

Ukraine plans to start production of Ka-226 helicopters by the end of the year, according to Yaroslav Sukhy, aide to the general director of Motor-Sich (Zaparozhye). According to Sukhy the project has already received the support of the Ukrainian government. "The technical and financial aspects of the future project have been developed, all that remains is to decide on a location for the assembly, Sukhy said, adding, "Motor-Sich is being considered, as are military-industrial production facilities in Feodossia, Crimea. The cost of the helicopter will not exceed $1 million with potential customers for the multi-purpose Ka-226 helicopter including the Ukrainian Defence Ministry, which has already expressed interest in placing an order. Developed from the Ka-126, the twin turbine Ka-226 was originally announced in 1990 to meet the requirements of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry.
