Poles plan aviation sales for Latin America

The Polish Industrial Development Agency leads delegation to Venezuela to discuss Skytruck contract

Published: 7/26/1999

Polish aviation industry representatives paid a visit to Caracas at the beginning of July. During three days of meetings with Venezuela's authorities they discussed the implementation of the $100-million contract for the delivery of 36 Polish M-28 Skytruck transport planes produced by the PZL Mielec for the Venezuelan armed forces and the National Guard. Also discussed were outline plans to establish a service centre in Venezuela for Skytruck planes sold in Latin America. The owner of PZL Mielec, the Polish Industrial Development Agency's (ARP) President Arkadiusz Kriel, the head of the Polish mission disclosed that another Polish economic mission would go to Caracas in September. This time the mission will include representatives of the Gdynia Shipyard, the most rapidly developing facility in the Polish shipbuilding sector. "We can see wide interest in Venezuela in Polish experience in the shipbuilding industry. This may result in joint investment projects," the ARP president said. The Industrial Development Agency now controls a substantial part of the Polish aviation industry. Apart from the Mielec-based plant ARP's portfolio includes a major stake in helicopter producer WSK Swidnik.
