LOT to ground fleet on New Year's Day

Poland's national airline exercises caution over Year 2000 compliance

Published: 7/13/1999

On July 12th 1999, LOT, Poland's national airline, announced that it would ground all its planes on January 1st 2000, in order to avoid possible Year 2000 compliance problems. Monika Krajczynska, spokeswoman for LOT, said that flights on the company's fleet of Boeing and other jets would resume service on January 2nd 2000. She claimed that losses from the one day grounding would be minimal, since few people travel on New Year's day. Many large European and US airlines and airports have emphasised their confidence in Year 2000 safety and computer checks and consider it safe to fly to most destinations on January 1st 2000.
