Aeroflot's servicing costs radically reduced

Aeroflot secures servicing deal with French aviation authorities

Published: 7/12/1999

French aviation authorities have given Aeroflot certification to perform their own maintenance on its fleet of ten Boeing 737s, as well as the ability to offer the servicing to other operators. According to Yury Evdokimov, Head of the Aeroflot Technical Centre, the savings are estimated to be the difference between $80 per hour, which is currently charged by Lufthansa Technics, and their in-house cost of $6 per hour. This should enable Aeroflot to achieve at least some of its planned cost savings, which were recently announced. Aeroflot already has a maintenance certificate for its A-310s and hopes to get similar certification for the Boeing 767s and Boeing 777s later in 1999. Not surprisingly, it intends to attract third party servicing business from the 22 other airlines that use Sheremetyevo Airport, on the basis of much lower costs, as part of the company"s strategy to broaden its revenue base.
