Czech's talk about Y2K preperation

Czechs confident of Y2K compliance on the ground and in the air

Published: 7/2/1999

The Czech Airport Administration (CSL) is expecting air traffic to decline over the first few days of 2000. This reflects travellers' fears that Year 2000 compliance may particularly affect air transport. Ms. Vlasta Pallova, a spokeswoman for CSL, said that the organisation predicted that airlines might cancel or limit some of their flights over the period. Czech Airlines (CSA) is also preparing for 2000 and plans to test its equipment by mid-1999. Ms Jan Bartak, Public Relations Director for CSA, confirmed that the company was making contingency plans in the event of system or technical failures. However, no safety problems are expected to occur. The Rizeni Letoveho Provozu air-traffic control is also confident that it is prepared for 2000, as its computer systems were installed in the last five years, and testing of the systems included Y2K compatibility checks.
