Slovenia's first appearence at Le Bourget with PC-9 upgrade

Published: 6/28/1999

The Slovenia's first appearance at the Le Bourget was due to the Pilatus PC-9 Swift program jointly carried out by Slovenian Ministry of Defence and Radom Aviation Systems Ltd of Israel. The program was undertaken last year with the aim of upgrading nine of the dozen PC-9s currently operated by Slovenian Air Force. Planes are being upgraded with packages allowing wider use of the type as a single platform, for basic and advanced training. The advanced avionics with HOTAS and HUD as well HDD feature in both cockpits. Additionally recording systems including HUD camera and data recorder allow for a more effective debriefing system for training. Weapons carrying capability has also been improved as part of the upgrade. The upgrade of the PC-9 Swift was undertaken at the military air base at Brnik Airfield near Liublana early this year and on May 21st 1999 the plane completed its maiden flight. Before arrival at Le Bourget some 20 hours of tests have been completed. The program of upgrades is due to be completed by June and July of 2000. The Slovenian MOD and Radom are planning to undertake a world-wide marketing campaign to sell their upgrade package.
