New routes to Moldova from Hungarian carrier Carpathian Air Transport

The Hungarian company, Carpathian Air Transport, has started a new route to Moldova, flying from Budapest to Kishinev. Mr Kalman Felvinzi, General Director of Carpathian Air Transport, said that the company was planning five flights a week over the summer period, using a Yak-40, which is wet leased from an undisclosed Ukrainian carrier. He added that, if operations this summer proved there was sufficient volume of traffic, the service would continue beyond the trial period.
Carpathian claims that it does not intend to compete with the Moldavian Airlines, which makes three flights a week on the same route. However, Moldpress, the Moldovan press agency, has reported that the cost of a round trip ticket, is $219, which is almost $80 cheaper than that offered by Moldavian Airlines.
The ticket sales for the carrier are provided by the Kishinev agency, Voiaj International. Companies and organisations purchasing 20 tickets a month will receive a 10% discount and, for groups of more than three people, a discount of 5%, with children under 12 years old flying free. Mr Felvinzi said that a new flight, connecting Moldova and Italy with a stop in Budapest, is planned for August 1999.
