Sukhoi looking at new production site

Sukhoi investigating aircraft production in Armenia

Published: 5/18/1999

According to a report from the Russian news agency, Interfax, Mr Hovannes Ohanian, an Armenian senior executive at the Sukhoi Production Company, has claimed that the firm may begin manufacturing light sport aircraft in Armenia, provided that a tax exemption agreement is reached with the Armenian government. Mr Ohanian said that Sukhoi wants the present, three-year exemption from profit tax for foreign companies extended to five years. He added that, if granted the extension, Sukhoi intended to invest some $7m in Armenian production facilities, so enabling it to produce 40 planes in 2000, and 80 planes in 2001. Sukhoi currently has two sports aircraft in production: the Su-29 and the Su-31. A few of the Su-29 have been assembled outside Russia, in the USA.
