Independent Azeri operator IMAIR is considering fleet renewal. According to deputy executive director Nadir Safarov, plans call for the leasing of two AI(R) ATR72 turboprops and two Boeing B-737s (either -400 or -500). The new planes would be used on routes within the CIS, including ones linking Azeri capital Baku with Ashkhabad, Rostov-upon-Don and Nakhichevan.
Registered in 1995, under "ITX" code, IMAIR flies regular charters from Baku to Tashkent, Moscow, Sharjah, Urumchi and Istanbul. Its own fleet consists of seven aircraft (1 Tu-154M, 2 Tu-154Bs, 3 Il-76s and 1 Tu-134B). In addition, 2 Tu-154Bs, 3 Il-76s and 1 Tu-134 are hired from other operators. In 1996, IMAIR carried 54.5 thousand passengers (in comparison with 32.4 previous year) and 14,600 t of cargo. The company's planes spent 4,600 hours in the air.
