|
Published:
11/21/1997
The problem of controlled flight into terrain (CFIT)is very acute for Russian civil aviation, according to Ivan Valov, deputy director of the Federal Aviation Service (FAS). Three out of four catastrophes of Mi-8 helicopters in 1997 occurred while in controlled flight. The global CFIT rate is also very high: during the last 20 years there have been 400 accidents classified as CFIT, which took 8,000 lives, Valov said.(IN1197.3) (VZ)
