83% of air accidents are caused by "human factor"
|
Published:
11/21/1997
Analysis of statistics on air accidents shows that most of the crashes were caused by the so-called "human factor". Ivan Valov, first deputy director of the Federal Aviation Service (FAS), said the factor was the main cause of 83% of the accidents in Russian civil aviation over the last two years.
Among the main causes are errors in piloting, unsatisfactory organisation of flights, violations of flight rules and incorrect decisions. The FAS is most concerned over poor decision-making and poor actions. In response to this the FAS has made changes to pilot training. The accent has been put on training in decision making. Valov also added that the new pilot training programme of the Tu-204 takes into account real emergencies. (IN1197.2) (VZ)
