5/12/2000
Balkan Airline's nine day strike has ended after negotiations on the 11th May following the intervention of the government in the form of the Ministers of Transport, Finance and Labour in seven hours of negotiating on Wednesday 10th May.
Bozhidar Danev, head of Bulgaria's Industrial Association, did not give details of the agreement but said that the pilots union had approved a management proposal, Other sources say the agreement between the two sides calls for the formation of a joint working group that will propose pay rises by 30th September in line with the airline's revenues.
The agreement comes after 76 of the protesting pilots were summoned to appear to in court after the owners of the airline, the Zeevi Group, filed a complaint. Gad Zeevi, the Chairman of Zeevi, told the striking pilots Tuesday that they should return to work or face the consequences. The court however, postponed the hearing until 22nd May to give the strikers time to present their case.
