Agreement not to overload cargo aircraft

Published: 7/24/1998

Russia's largest cargo aviation companies have pledged not to overload their aircraft, a representative of one of the companies told ConCISe. He was commenting on the outcome of an open meeting of the Association of Cargo Aviation Companies. The strict obligation to observe the aircraft loading requirements will come into force on 1 August. The maximum load should not exceed 47 tonnes for Il-76 aircraft and 15 tonnes for the An-12, providing there are no other special requirements for a certain aircraft type. Director General of the Volga-Dneper airlines, Alexei Isaikin, who is also President of the Association of Cargo Aviation Companies, said that the decision was taken in order to end this malpractice which jeopardises safety, not to mention the negative impact on the image of Russia's cargo air companies on the world market. The agreement was signed by members of the association, including such companies as Atran, Atlant-Soyuz, Volga-Dnieper, East-Line, Il Avia, Titan, Tesis and Aeroflot - Russian International Airlines.
