Record passenger volumes for Ukraine International Airlines

Ukrainian carrier reaps benefits of collaborative agreements

Published: 2/3/2000

Ukraine International Airlines witnessed a dramatic increase in passenger volume during 1999, in which it carried more than 220,000 passengers, principally on routes to major European centres. The airline attributed its robust performance to the development of joint routes with other carriers: an example of which is the 10 joint flights a week to Vienna in co-operation with Austrian Airlines. This has had the impact of improving the airline"s utilisation and has had a considerable impact on costs. According to the airline, this had allowed it to be more competitive. Further collaborations are currently being discussed with KLM and Sabena. This summer, the airline is planning to increase flights to Western Europe from its current 77 flights a week, using its fleet of 5 B-737s and to open up a new undisclosed destination in Scandinavia.
