First Proton launch since crash to go ahead on 15th February at Baikonur

Published: 1/26/2000

Yury Koptev, General Director of the Russian Aerospace Agency, has announced that, on 15th February, the first launch of a Proton launch vehicle, since the crash on 27th October, will take place at Baikonur carrying the Garuda-1 communications satellite for Indonesia,. According to Interfax, Russia will shortly advise Kazakhstan on the status of preparations made in order to enable the ban on Proton launches after two crashes last year can be lifted. Koptev added that, under the terms of the agreement recently signed with Kazakhstan, a ban may still be enforced for the specific type of rocket that crashed.
