Uzbekistan awards ATC equipment contract

Central Asian ATC improvement funded by Japan

Published: 1/13/2000

Alenia Marconi Systems (AMS), a British-Italian joint venture, has announced that it has won a contract worth over $28.5m to modernise Uzbekistan's civil aviation radar system. AMS is jointly owned by Italy's Finmeccanica holding company and UK BAe Systems, formerly British Aerospace. Under the terms of the deal, it will supply equipment for air traffic control and management at airports at Samarkand, Urgench and Bukhara, over the next 18 months. Financing for the project, which is part of a programme to modernise the country's infrastructure, will come from Japan's Overseas Export Credit Fund. AMS specializes in radars and land and naval defence systems.
