Angara gets broader usage approval

Russian governemnt approves use of Angara for foreign nonmilitary satellites

The Russian government has approved a proposal from the Russian Aerospace Agency to use the Khrunichev Space Centre's Angara rocket systems for commercial launches of foreign non-military satellites. Acting Russian President, Vladimir Putin, is reported to have signed the relevant government directive. A proposal for cooperation between the Khrunichev Centre and Lockheed Martin, has also been approved. This cooperation involves the launch of foreign satellites from Plesetsk, using Angara rockets. Lockheed Martin will undertake the marketing of the Angara rocket and provide Krunichev with the $68m funding for the project. It is expected that contracts will later be signed with International Launch Services for the launch of foreign satellites
