ATC concerns lead to close down

Uzbek's close down over the New Year with Y2K concerns

In anticipation of potential Y2K problems, the Uzbek Government closed its airports over the New Year period and banned flights by Uzbek registered aircraft. Foreign flights overflying the country were unaffected by the ban. The primary concern of the Uzbek authorities was the possibility of air traffic control failure.
