Regional government intervenes on fuel prices

Yakutiya Republic sets aviation fuel prices and says no raises in ticket prices for subsidised flights in 2000

Published: 12/13/1999

According to Ruslan Shipkov, Vice Premier of the Yakutiya Republic, who is responsible for the aviation sector, the government has imposed price controls on aviation fuel supplied to airlines by ZAO Airport GSM Service. The fuel is purchased through the budget and officially released to buyers at a fixed price. The latest price of 5,959 rubles per ton, established for Sakhaavia on 25th November, which has been accepted by the operators, who are no doubt happy to have a secure fuel source. Shipkov added that ticket prices for the principal routes are likely to rise. While he stressed that carriers should not be expected to work unprofitably, he confirmed that the government expected profitable flights to offset unprofitable ones. Shipkov further commented that there would be no price rises on local flights so long as the 2000 budget provides subsidies for these flights.
