Direct route cuts out Moscow

Direct route from Northern Russia to Crimea discussed by government ministers

Published: 12/12/1999

The possibility of a direct air link between Crimea and Yamalo-Nenetsky region has been discussed between Serguey Kunitsin, Prime Minister of Crimea and Alexander Spirin, Deputy Governor of Yamalo-Nenetsky region in northern Russia. A direct link between Yamal and Gvardeysky Airport, as opposed to Simferopol, via Moscow, as at present, would result in lower air fares according to the two governments, so making it easier for northern Russia residents to travel to the warmer climes of Crimea . According to reports the air link could be in put in place next year.
