US certification for PZL M-26 Iskierka

Published: 5/22/1998

PZL-Mielec has received FAA FAR Part 23 certificationfor its light two-seat civil/military trainer/aerobatic aircraft, the PZL M-26 Iskierka. This is a Textron Lycoming-powered, tandem low wing monoplane with retractable undercarriage built from parts taken from the PZL M-20 Mewa twin-engined six-seater. The type successfully passed tests at Deblin Military Aviation Academy and should be enter service shortly, despite the fact that due to a lack of financing the initial order for 12 units still remains an option. Meanwhile, sales in the civilian market are developing with six units shipped to Melex USA and an additional six are expected to leave Poland over the next few months. An unnamed military operator in Latin America is also negotiating to buy the Iskierka. (IN598.13) (MM)
