MiG name adoption marks 60th anniversary

MAPO renamed
Published:
12/12/1999
The Russian government has re-named MAPO as Russian Aircraft Building Corporation MiG. Nikolay Nikitin has been appointed as General Designer and General Director of the MiG Corporation.
Why the government felt it was necessary to undertake this particular name change is uncertain, but given that we have just passed the sixtieth anniversary of MAPO/MiG founding, perhaps this is an acceptance that the MiG brand is significantly better known than that of MAPO and is therefore a title more appropriate, to cover all the constituent elements of the increasingly civilian, military industrial entity.
