Controversial deliveries started by MAPO to Bangladesh

MAPO has begun to fulfil the controversial MiG-29 order for Bangladesh, according to reports from news agency ITAR-TASS, following comments made by the Russian delegation at the LIMA-99 exhibition in Malaysia. Two Mig-29s are due to be shipped to the Bangladesh this month from the MAPO facility at LMZ Lukhovitsy, with a further two combat training MiG-29UBs being assembled at Sokol in Nizhniy-Novgorod and expected to be delivered ‘shortly". According to the report, MAPO will deliver a further four aircraft early next year, so fulfilling the contract. At present, 60 personnel from the Bangladesh Air Force are receiving training on the new aircraft in Krasnodar.
