Konstantin Lushakov, Executive Director of Antonov Airlines, has said that the ANTK Antonov design bureau plans to create an international Antonov airport, based at its flight test aerodrome in Gostomel, some 25 km from Kiev. According to Lushakov, a business-plan has already been developed to convert the test base, at an estimated cost of $900m.
ANTK Antonov claims to have found several potential partners – as yet unidentified - to help resource the project, and will itself invest in the construction, using a proportion of the revenue derived from Antonov Airline"s cargo traffic.
The project consists of two phases. During the first, two-year stage, the existing roads network will be rebuilt, and construction of the airport will begin, at a total cost of some $330m. The second stage, scheduled to last three years, provides for the completion of the airport, at a cost of $570m.
