Alexander Brook of Myasizhev has insisted that the company remains interested in developing the twin turboprop multipurpose transport M-102 Duet-Saras programme, in conjunction with Indian producer, the National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL). This is despite earlier reports that the company had withdrawn, having been prevented from taking up its full 50% of the programme due to funding difficulties. According to Brook, Myasizhev will visit India in early December, in order to discuss cooperation between the two parties.
The Duet-Saras programme, which was created in 1993, is estimated to have cost between $40-60m in 1996 and was anticipated to have a market of between 1300-1400 units for the $3.5-4m aircraft. The aircraft is due to make its maiden flight in 2000 and, when in serial production, will be produced for the Russian market with the option of the P&W PT6A-66 or TWD-10Bs.
