International Space Station takes shape

Launch date for Russian module to be set next month

Published: 11/25/1999

The timetable for the launch of the Russian module for the International Space Station (ISS) will be decided at a meeting in December of the council of main designers. The preliminary date for the launch is 22nd-23rd February 2000. Kazakhstan"s current ban of Proton flights from Baikonur until March 2000 may result in this being re-scheduled. So far, the cargo block, Zarya, connected to the US aeropsace block, is in orbit. Zarya was built by GKNPZ in partnership with Boeing at a cost of $200m.
