New Orel Airport opens

Western Russian airport gets FSVT approval

Published: 11/22/1999

On 18th November, the overhauled runway at Orel-Yuzhny International Airport (Orel-South) in Western Russia was approved for use by the FSVT. The runway has been extended by 450m and will now be able to receive larger aircraft such as the Tu-154, Yak-42 and Boeing-757. The contractor, Oreldorstroi, will now continue to upgrade the airport with new terminals and taxiways. The project, which follows other similar projects for the contractor in the Ukraine, is expected to be completed in August 2000.
