Defective part grounds aircraft

Problems on the ground for Sibir Tu-154

Published: 11/22/1999

On 18th November, a Tu-154B belonging to Sibir reported problems with it"s landing gear after landing at Blagoveshchensk Airport in Siberia during a Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky-Blagoveshchensk- Novosibirsk-Krasnodar flight. During a post-landing maneouvre, the crew apparently heard a strange noise and had difficulty turning the aircraft. The airport"s maintenance team reported the incident was caused by a crack in the right attachment lug of the left landing gear wedging, the beam. Te aircraft"s 115 passengers experienced an 11 hour delay until a Sibir maintenance crew flew in from Novosibirsk with a spare. The team established that the defective part had been recently replaced during scheduled maintenance. The landing gear will be taken to the GosNII of Civil Aviation in Moscow for investigation.
