Another air company goes for the split

Split of Bashkirsky air entity follows appointment of new executives

Published: 11/16/1999

Following the appointment of Vilmir Gaziyev as General Director of Bashkirsky Airlines (BAL) and Vilghelm Kapp as General Director of Ufa International Airport (www.concise.org 9th November 1999), it has been announced that the airport has been spun off from its airline counterpart. The restructuring is part of a plan to increase the number of airlines flying into Ufa and to improve the airport"s quality of service. Ufa"s international terminal is currently under construction. (www.concise.org. 4th October 1999). According to Anatoly Privalov, Assistant to Gaziyev, at least $100m is needed for its completion. Ufa Airport is one of four Russian airports with “second category" status, capable of servicing all planes. According to Privalov, discussions are underway with Ukrainian, Uzbek and Belorussian airlines to open new routes from Ufa to Tashkent, Bukhara, Kiev and Minsk. Chelyabinsk Airlines, Vnukovo Airlines and Domodedovo Airlines are reportedly also considering participating in the bid for licenses to carry passengers from Ufa to Moscow. BAL is currently the only airline operating out of Ufa.
