An-140 continues to make progress
Published:
11/8/1999
Following reports that certification of the An-140 is expected in early 2000 (www.concise.org. 3rd September 1999), Vladimir Ryzhkov, Deputy General of Aviakor, has confirmed that the fuselage of the first An-140 has been completed and taken to Aviakor for assembly. Preparation for serial production is now virtually complete, and the company expects that, over the course of next year, eight An-140 fuselages will be made in Samara.
Aviakor claims to have substantial orders for the An-140. At an estimated $6-8m, it costs significantly less than its nearest competitor, the Il-114, with a $10m+ price tag.
