A-310 for Armenian Airlines

Published: 4/24/1998

According to Airbus Industrie, the fleet of its airliners flying in the CIS will increase from twelve currently, up to 20 by the end of this year. On 24 March, the manufacturer announced a deal with Armenian Airlines on the delivery of an A-310 airliner powered by Pratt & Whitney JT9D engines during this summer. The aircraft will become the first Western type in the Armenian aviation inventory. It is being taken on operating lease, but may be purchased in the future. Armenian Airlines has further plans to increase its Airbus fleet up to ten. In addition to the A310s, the national flag-carrier holds a letter of intent with Tupolev on five Tu-204s. However, according to Oleg Alasheev, manager for the Tu-204-120 programme at Tupolev, the customer has yet to find financial sources to fund acquisitions of Russian-built airliners.(VK) (AL498.6)
