Tu-334 set to begin production in Iran in 2002 after resolution of outstanding problems
Published:
10/19/1999
Vasily Alexandrov, General Director of Tupolev, has claimed that the designers of the 100-seat Tu-334 have solved all the technical problems concerning production at IAMI (HESA) in Ishfahan, Iran (www.concise.org 26th August 1999).
A Russian delegation will go to Iran in the next few weeks to conduct all necessary training.
According to Alexandrov, funding problems are still outstanding.
Under a Russian government decree, MAPO is responsible for Tu-334 mass production and modification.
Apparently MAPO will be the main company responsible for the Tu-334 production organisation in Iran.
Tu-334 tests have recently begun. According to Igor Kalygin, General Designer, these will proceed quickly, as the Tu-334 has much in common with Tu-204, which is already certified and operational, so reducing the certification process.
Certification is planned for 2001 and the start of production in 2002.
