Contract awarded for Tashkent rehabilitation

Second phase of Tashkent airport upgrade programme awarded to Chinese contractor

China National Water Resources and Hydropower Engineering Co. (CWHEC) has successfully tendered for the contract to carry out the second phase of upgrading Tashkent airport in Uzbekistan. According to the EBRD, which will be providing the finance for the project, estimated to be in the region of $9 million, the company will be rebuilding the airport's apron and taxiways. The contract with the airport operator Tashkent Airport Enterprise will be undertaken over the next six months. The three-phase redevelopment programme estimated to cost in the region of $51.3 million, is undertaking urgent rehabilitation of the airport's runways and related facilities, as well as modernisation of the airport's terminal and associated services. The first phase funded by the German state owned bank KfW and has been completed by the construction company Strabag. The EBRD is currently preparing to issue an invitation to tender for the third phase involving the modernisation of the terminal.
