New route for Hungarian carrier

Malev opens flights to Ireland filling out its EU route network

Published: 10/4/1999

Malev has launched a direct service to Dublin. Miklos Bencze, Communications Manager, said that Boeing 737-200s and 737-300s would make roundtrip flights between Budapest and Dublin three times per week. The service was launched under an aviation agreement signed with Ireland in 1992. In Ireland, Malev will be represented by the PACE Group as its chief agent. The airline expects that the flight will be mostly used by business class traffic reflecting the $10-15m Irish investors have put into Hungarian ventures. The launch fits into Malev's strategy to expand into promising Western markets, as well as being a major carrier in Eastern Central Europe. It will also help Budapest to become a regional air hub. Malev now has regular flights to every EU capital, except Lisbon.
