Regional airliner may be produced

NAPO says it is ready to produce 30-35 An-38s a year

Published: 9/17/1999

According to Alexander Bobryshev, Director General of NAPO in Novosibirsk, his company is now ready to produce 30-35 An-38s regional airliner a year, with additional capacity to increase this to 50. Russian customers, Vostok Airlines and Chukot, have already taken delivery of four An-38s and there are letters of intent from a number of Russian airlines. A recent marketing trip to India was well received. Although there are no firm reports of orders, the Indian Air Force expressed interest in six to ten aircraft. The price of the aircraft is $4-4.2m, of which $1m is attributable to the AlliedSignal TPE331-14GR-801E turboprops. NAPO says that it is covering the majority of production costs, with a small proportion coming from the state.
