The light aircraft designer, Aeroprakt Firma, based in Samara, is preparing for the production of three types of aircraft, according to its Chief Designer, Igor Vakhruchev. Since 1974, the company has designed over 25 new gliders, light amphibians and light aircraft of which 22 have been built, with one in small-scale production, three in prototype and one under development.
Vakhruchev claims that the company has sold five examples of its $15,000 single seat sporting aircraft - the A-21 - in its basic configuration ($18,000 in acrobatic) to customers abroad and is ready to produce its
$25,500 2-seat trainer, the A-23, and the $35,000 A-27.
In the first half of 2000, Aeroprakt Firma plans to test its $120,000 four seat A-25 Breeze amphibian with a 250 horsepower Lycoming: a substantial increase on the original 207 hp LOM M337. It also intends to use the engine in other aircraft, a 4-seat A-29 and an all-plastic A-27 with floats. OAO Start, partly supported by other plants in Samara, will manufacture these aircraft.
