Iranian and Russians continue to develop aerospace cooperation

Preliminary agreement between Russia and Iran on the production of Tu-334 under licence

Published: 8/26/1999

Following a meeting with an Iranian delegation, the Russian Deputy Prime Minister, Ilya Klebanov, announced an agreement in principle with Iran over a contract to assemble, under license, 100 Tu-334s in Iran. According to the Klebanov, the contract will be signed when a number of minor financial issues have been resolved. Managers of ANTK Tupolev and VPK MAPO will visit Teheran in mid-September to address outstanding issues, so the agreement can be signed by October 1st 1999. The team will also tackle questions on the production set up. Russia has been involved in a number of aerospace ventures with Iran over the last few years, including licensed production of the An-140 (www.concise.org 26/3/99). MAPO will continue to finance the international certification of the aircraft, in conjunction with the Ukrainian production partners, Kiev- based, Aviant.
