Further Egyptian orders for Aviastar for the Tu-204
Published:
8/26/1999
Aviastar claims to have signed a deal with Egyptian leasing company, Sirocco, to supply 15 Tu-204-120s, powered by Rolls-Royce RB-211s.
Viktor Kuznetsov, Deputy Head of Aviastar's marketing department, told Reuters that, under the contract, planes would be produced in the next few years.
The deal is part of a 1994 agreement under which Sirocco planned to buy 200 of the aircraft for leasing to airlines. Aviastar has already supplied Sirocco with three Tu-204s (2 passenger and 1 cargo) which have subsequently been leased to Egyptian operator, Air Cairo, on seven year leases. These are believed to be operating a mix of scheduled and charter flights in Egypt. One of the Air Cairo aircraft was recently seen at MAKS 99.
The base price for the aircraft is quoted by Aviastar to be $28m. The engine supplier, Rolls Royce, welcomed the deal, but is so far unable to confirm it officially.
