Belarus domestic air traffic falls by 39% in H1 1999
Published:
8/23/1999
According to a report from the State Aviation Committee of Belarus relayed by Russian news agency Interfax, the Belarus airlines generated revenues of 2.4 trillion Belorussian rubles ($8.7 m) in the first half of 1999.
The poor condition of the market was reflected in the results, which showed a decline compared to the first half of 1998. In the first six months of 1999, the airlines serviced 122,100 passengers: a reduction of 10% in passengers being carried to and from the CIS to 68,600, and a fall of 39% to 53,500 passengers carried within the country.
A committee representative added that the difficult conditions of the domestic market had led many of the operators to wet lease their aircraft to foreign operators.
