Maintenance base proposed for Belorusia

Belorusians look for use for ex military facilities and see Shannon as a model

According to a report in Belorusian newspaper, Belta, a tax free zone in Vitebsk, Belorusia, has been created by presidential decree. It is claimed that the intention is to establish an aircraft servicing facility for international operators, using an existing airfield on the edge of a former military town, and the site of a former radio electronics factory, along the lines of Shannon international airport, according to an organisation representing war veterans, which is involved in the venture. While Belorusia is probably well located for such activity, the lack of a Western partner at present, would suggest that the project is in a very rudimentary stage and given the general condition of the economy in the country is going to be a difficult project to launch.
